Becoming a global researcher
Science is a global endeavor. The opportunity to work within the scientific infrastructure of another laboratory and country is an invaluable experience, with a significant impact on your career development as well as your professional and personal network.
By collaborating with scientists abroad, you gain new expertise while actively advancing your academic career.
Leaving your ‘protected environment’ and adopting a new scientific perspective may initially be challenging, yet the personal and scientific benefits will enrich both you and your research community.

Guidelines and Application Information
Programme Goal
The programme aims to support international research stays that allow doctoral candidates to gain expertise, learn novel techniques, and access specialised infrastructure or experimental setups.
Eligibility and Funding
This call is open to all DoSChem doctoral students. Applications are evaluated and ranked based on their quality and relevance.
Eligible Projects and Funding Scope
Projects should be closely aligned with your doctoral thesis and ideally represent newly initiated collaborations rather than existing partnerships.
Funded activities include:
- Research stays of 1–3 months
- Travel and accommodation costs
- Visa fees
Consumables:
- Up to 1,000 EUR per month (max. 3,000 EUR total)
Please note:
- Salaries and conference participation are not funded
- Costs not included in the original proposal will not be reimbursed
Application Requirements
Applications must include:
- A 2-page proposal in English covering:
- The project
- The need for the host lab
- Implementation plan and budget
- Approval from your supervisor and host
- A title page including your name, affiliation, project title, and host institution
Selection Process
The selection process typically takes 6–8 weeks.
Applications are reviewed by independent principal investigators. Based on their evaluations, the DoSChem steering committee makes the final decision.
Evaluation criteria follow the ABC principle:
- A: highly eligible for funding
- B: eligible
- C: not eligible
Applications are assessed based on:
- Scientific quality
- Budget justification
- Impact on the PhD project
- Quality of the host institution
